5th Christmas Meet
with the National Christmas Draw which
took place at 1pm.
The winter meet gave members the opportunity
to run trains regardless of the outside weather and have a social day.
Before the event the buzz words from
the Chairman were "The more locos, coaches and trucks brought along to
run the merrier".
After the event the Chairman said "A
most enjoyable day was had by all those who made it to this meet and our
thanks go to those who provided the tracks, the team of ladies who laid on
an excellent array of food to keep us nourished, and Martin Cook who coordinated
the event. The group funds benefitted from this event, largely due to the
sales skills of Elizabeth Cook with the raffle tickets and the generosity
of the donations towards the refreshments."
and went onto say
"We were very pleased to be able to
welcome three National Officers, Paul Felton, Chairman, Peter Deacon, Secretary
and Angela Darby, Journal Coordinator who travelled from Nottingham. They
were with us to make the National Draw. Congratulations to Peter Smith from
Dartford on having the first ticket drawn - the second time in recent years
that a Kent member has achieved this."

| 26th JULY 2008 FAVERSHAM EXHIBITION
This years exhibition took place
as Faversham marks the 150th anniversary of the railway reaching Faversham.
Nick Miller, frequently seen on our TV
screens predicting the weather, opened this years large scale model
railway exhibition at the Alexander Centre on Saturday 26th July. He was
joined by Mayor of Swale, Councillor Alan Willicombe and Deputy Mayor of
Faversham, Councillor Anita Walker.
The exhibition, organised by the Kent
Group of the G Scale Society, featured six different large scale model railways,
including several Faversham favourites.
Models of the celebrated childrens
favourite "Thomas" and some of his friends also appeared.
Children were invited to drive the trains
on at least one of the model railways.
The events was also supported by several
local heritage railways, including the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light
Railway, East Kent Railway, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Rother Valley
Railway.
A specialist supplier, Kent Garden Railways,
was selling a great variety of model railway equipment.
The Faversham Society exhibited a
taster display in advance of a full exhibition later in the year
to mark the 150th anniversary of the railway arriving in Faversham.
Councillor Fentiman said that opening
last years exhibition was one of "the most enjoyable events of his
mayoral year". The two mayors had so much fun they were in danger of being
late for their following engagements!
Paul and Ross did
a great job of organising the event as part of the Swale
Festival. |
Andrew checking the latest weather forecast
with Nick as he also presented him with a memento of his visit to the
event.
Nick spent much of the day at the show
and spoke with many members about his enjoyment of railways what ever their
size.

A new Web Master for the group's site
and a new URL. You are now viewing the new web site.
For sometime it had been becoming more
and more difficult to up date the Kent, Local Area Group's web site, in
particular with pictures and Ross the previous web master had less and less
time to devote to the struggle.
A relatively new member Charles Darley
was invited to give an opinion on the difficulties relating to the existing
site and this was relayed to the committee.
The committee took on board the nature
of the difficulties previously expressed by Ross and confirmed by Charles.
The committee invited Charles to take over from Ross and to design a revised
web site. This new web site was first launched on the web late in June and
much updated in July. |
