| 26th JULY 2008 FAVERSHAM EXHIBITION
This years exhibition took place
as Faversham marks the 150th anniversary of the railway reaching Faversham.
Nick Miller, frequently seen on our TV
screens predicting the weather, opened this years large scale model
railway exhibition at the Alexander Centre on Saturday 26th July. He was
joined by Mayor of Swale, Councillor Alan Willicombe and Deputy Mayor of
Faversham, Councillor Anita Walker.
The exhibition, organised by the Kent
Group of the G Scale Society, featured six different large scale model railways,
including several Faversham favourites.
Models of the celebrated childrens
favourite "Thomas" and some of his friends also appeared.
Children were invited to drive the trains
on at least one of the model railways.
The events was also supported by several
local heritage railways, including the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light
Railway, East Kent Railway, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Rother Valley
Railway.
A specialist supplier, Kent Garden Railways,
was selling a great variety of model railway equipment.
The Faversham Society exhibited a
taster display in advance of a full exhibition later in the year
to mark the 150th anniversary of the railway arriving in Faversham.
Councillor Fentiman said that opening
last years exhibition was one of "the most enjoyable events of his
mayoral year". The two mayors had so much fun they were in danger of being
late for their following engagements!
Paul and Ross did
a great job of organising the event as part of the Swale
Festival. |
